This will be our 4th academic year for UK Virtual School and you would think we'd be more organised, but every year there seems to be so much more to do. I've worked every single day this month! I thought I'd do a little reflection over this month so far.RecruitmentI started out with 6 Vacancies for various different roles at UKVS.I'm excited for the kids - they get awesome specialists to really ask curious questions to who will be very able to answer them rather than dismiss them. #Curiosity is such a central value for us and it's important for me to create an environment where that curiosity is met well.New thingsThere's many new things at UKVS that are coming into play on our 4th Year including:1) Short courses 2) Social Playground - we have a virtual space for students to hang out! 3) Our new academic journal4) New Team Leads for Primary, Secondary and Enrichment.5) 1:1 transition and SEN support #innovation is one of our core values and we're constantly implementing new changes. It's why our website is never fully up to date 😅 We move too fast! GCSE Results100% pass rateTotal average for our GCSEs is grade 7 (Grade 8 and range 7-9 if you just look at our 3 year students who have completed the full course)I'm so over the moon still 🎉To me, these results are evidence that results come if you focus on #growthmindset through teaching. Focusing on the journey and embedding this idea within our company culture not only gets students to love learning, and growing as a person, but also has a byproduct of awesome results 🤩EnrolmentNumbers are up for us year on year which shows that there is no decrease of interest because we're now out of lockdown. Quite the opposite. What I find interesting is the stories from families. We're getting more and more traction from the #worldschooling community and families are coming from all corners of the world. We've had more interest from American families this year than ever before. It looks like more and more Americans are wanting to do the British Curriculum. The #diversity in our enrolment this year is just fabulous. Not only just in the students but also within the teacher recruitment. I love the little bubble we've created with our ever growing UKVS family where #inclusion is not based on "tolerating" (I dislike that word) each other but actually embracing and celebrating our uniqueness. We are one at UKVS through our shared values, yet we want every one to be their own individual, shine their own torch, learn and reflect on who they are and want to be, and become that awesome person. Here's to another awesome year at UKVS!#SchoolWithoutWalls #onlineschool #ukvirtualschool #homeschooling #homeeducation

Helping students build a foundation in career and college readiness is essential to preparing students for life after high school. Personally, when I was in high school, I never explored a world outside of hockey. When it became time to enter life outside of sport, I wished I had a tool like MajorClarity by Paper. Here Virginia Beach City Public Schools shares how MajorClarity by Paper helped students reach their potential by allowing them to connect to their future and open their eyes to new possibilities.https://lnkd.in/gpqHsVm2

A Bonus Day in February means a Bonus Day of CTE Month! A big part of Career and Technical Education are CTSOs (Career and Technical Student Organizations) that give students leadership experience and opportunities to apply their classroom knowledge. As a current FCCLA Advisor and a proud FFA Alumni member, I am always looking for ways to encourage students to join CTSOs or other student organizations. As the last part of my master's degree program last fall, I took a closer look at the student perspective of the relationship between co-curricular involvement & their high school experience. In my research project, I found that students involved in co-curricular organizations:⭐ Were more likely to feel like they were an important part of their school community⭐ Felt supported by teachers and school staff⭐ Agreed that they looked forward to parts of their high school experience⭐ Reported a greater sense of belonging in school⭐ Noted positive impacts of their involvement including many responses of gaining friends and social skills, making them happier, providing personal development and adding positive school experiences. If you're interested in hearing more about my research & findings, feel free to check out my blog or presentation: https://lnkd.in/gdAihk2Z.To celebrate CTE Month: I'm curious, how have CTSOs or other co-curricular organizations impacted you?

I wanted to share a little update: I’ve been at Lakes Region Community College for about four months now and I could not be HAPPIER!LRCC does student support better than anyone I’ve seen. It sounds cliche, but I genuinely learn something new every single day. I am so grateful for my team of brilliant, hilarious, determined, and deeply gracious people (Claudia, Anthony, Laura, Melissa, Nancy, Paula, Tyler, Penny…I’m looking at you guys)! If you don’t believe how awesome we are, then check out this article on our 2023 Gateway to College program, one of my first big projects at LRCC:

First-generation and other students in UW Bothell's Discovery Core Experience classes learn a valuable life lesson — to be proud of who you are and where you come from Getting into college and making it through to graduation can be hard no matter a person’s circ*mstances. But for first-generation students — the first in their families to pursue a four-year degree — the challenges can be even greater. https://lnkd.in/g2Tu7auc
