MKA is PreK-12, but this review is focused specifically on the middle school. Your kid will do well here if they are a top student and/or popular, but there is little to no support for a struggling student, whether academically or socially. There response to any academic difficulties is to suggest private tutoring, and their response to any typical middle school problems (friends, fitting in, etc etc) is therapy (not that some kids don't need these supports, but that the school offers zero support itself). The administration is ineffective and unhelpful. There are some great teachers here, but it doesn't make up for the fact that the overall culture and support provided are terrible. Very focused on optics ("looking good") versus actually doing good. I've heard better things about the high school but we aren't sticking around to find out.

The middle school is terrible. It is cliquey and the popular kids are those with wealthy parents or those who are sporty. The school doesn’t support anyone struggling. As typical of some private schools, the response to academic challenge is to hire a tutor. This is a way-overrated school not worth the ticket price. The college placement is great if you plan to pay full price for that too.

While there are downsides to attending Montclair Kimberley Academy, I would say the upsides outweigh them. The college preparation and the faculty are the best parts of this school. Students are taught essential lessons such as researching topics in detail, carrying out scientific processes, analyzing novels at a college level, and much more. Teachers are incredibly versed in their disciplines, some even having PHDs. Office hours and small class sizes allow for a very hands on atmosphere. Every students feels like they are equally valued and heard in the classroom. However, MKA should improve their diversity. Their lack of racial and economic diversity sometimes makes people of color, such as myself, uncomfortable. The administration is not very strict with consequences, so there have been many cases of academic dishonesty. Further, there is little to no enforcement of dress code, code of conduct, etc., but students generally follow these rules without needing enforcement.
