Egg White Oatmeal Recipe (1)

Egg white oatmeal is perfect for bodybuilders, athletes and all those active people who need a protein breakfast to fuel their performances. Further, this recipe comes in very handy if you don't have protein powder.

When I was 16, I was already making my oatmeal with egg whites. High in protein, easy to make and so fluffy, it quickly became my favorite breakfast. Actually, after almost six years, it still is. I eat egg white oatmeal almost every day. I simply love it!

And you will love it too!

Why you will love egg white oats

This may be one of those recipes that you'll find yourself making time and again. And here is why:

  • Egg whites are a great alternative to protein powder - perfect if you don't have it or if you just don't like the grainy texture of protein powder oatmeal!
  • Oatmeal with egg whites is so fluffy - thick and creamy at the same time!
  • Making egg white oatmeal is so quick and easy - on the stove or in the microwave, you choose!
  • As for any oatmeal, this recipe is so versatile - add some cinnamon, your favorite fruit and nut butter for more satisfying oats!
  • Egg white oatmeal is rich in fibers, protein and slow releasing carbs - you will stay full until lunchtime!

Ingredients

The basic egg white oatmeal recipe requires just five simple ingredients. On the top of these, you are free to pick and choose any extras for more flavor.

Here's what you need to make protein oatmeal with egg whites

  • Rolled oats - replace with quick oats.
  • Preferred sweetener - use erythritol or stevia for a sugar-free oatmeal or go for maple syrup, honey, agave or coconut sugar.
  • Milk of choice or water - use cow or dairy-free milk, or replace with water.
  • Liquid egg whites - for convenience, I use egg whites in brick.
  • Ground cinnamon - for more flavor, you can replace with vanilla extract, cocoa powder, any spice you like or skip completely.

Oatmeal recipe variations

Egg white oats are incredibly versatile. With a different topping, spice or fruit... it will feel like eating a different breakfast everyday! And if you still need some ideas, here are some recipe variations I love.

  • Apple pie oatmeal - add and cook diced apple in your oats and flavor with some vanilla extract.
  • Pumpkin pie oatmeal - cook your oats with a couple tablespoons of mashed pumpkin and pumpkin pie spice.
  • Peanut butter and banana oatmeal - stir one tablespoon of peanut butter into your oats and top with banana slices.
  • Chocolate cake oatmeal - replace cinnamon with cocoa powder and sprinkle some chocolate chips on top of your cooked oats.
  • Coffee egg white oatmeal - replace part of the milk or water with brewed coffee. Craving mocha? Then don't add 1 tablespoon of cocoa powder!

How much egg white?

This protein oatmeal recipe uses 80 grams (⅓ cup) of liquid egg whites. This is a reasonable amount that doesn't taste too eggy. However, if you don't mind an eggy aftertaste, add more egg whites for extra protein. I personally like making my oats with 120 ml (½ cup) of egg whites.
