Frickles? Fried Pickles? Pickle Chips? Whatever you call them, they are one of my favorite appetizers. I get super excited when I see them on a menu because I feel like they are totally underrated.

I created this recipe before I had an air fryer, so I knew I needed to update it with that option. This is a great summer BBQ appetizer or side, and I want to be able to make them without turning on my oven.

If you haven’t tried fried pickles before, they might sound kind of strange. I actually thought they would be pretty gross, but a friend of mine who used to work at an excellent local BBQ restaurant made me try them.

She says they are one of their most ordered items, and I can totally see why now! The combination of the tangy pickles with the salty, crunchy coating is just out of this world.

But, of course, the original version in deep fried, so just a few of those chips at a restaurant will deplete your daily macros and/or points.

These Air Fried Pickle Chips (or oven-fried) are a total point/macros bargain. 3 SmartPoints for 1/4 of the recipe! And these get super crunchy in the oven or air fryer.

You definitely want to make up some of my Light Ranch Dressing to serve alongside these beauties!

HOw to Make Air Fried Pickle Chips

This recipe is super easy and quick to make! Here’s all you need to do:

  • Preheat air fryer to 400F or oven to 450F. Dry as much fo the brine off of the pickles as you can with a paper towel. Add dried pickles chips to a Ziploc bag with the cornstarch. Shake around until all chips are coated
  • Place egg wash and panko in separate bowls. To the panko, mix in paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  • Dip each chip in the egg wash, then coat in seasoned panko. Place on a cookie sheet that has been greased with cooking spray.
  • Once all chips are coated, spray the tops with cooking spray. Bake on the top rack of your oven (closest to heat) for 10 minutes. Flip chips, spray tops again, and bake for another 5 minutes.
  • Sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste (keep in mind that your pickles might already be pretty salty).

Serving size is 1/4 of the recipe (about 2/3 cup) and 3 WW Points

WW SmartPoints on all plans: 3 for 1/4 of the recipe (about 2/3 cup)

* Just use as many chips as you can to use up all of the coating. Mine came out to about 45-50 chips, but it really depends on the size/brand of your chips. If you add more, it won’t increase the points.
